Overview

This is a non-proftmaking website that I run as a hobby, featuring links to local societies and businesses, a few photos of the area and some general information about Davyhulme.

Most of the advertising originates from family and friends or other organisations that have a Davyhulme connection of some kind. Email me (address above) if you would like to enquire about placing a similar advert.

There's also details of some internet and PC services that I can provide.

Finance and feedback

The small amount of income that I receive from advertising and website construction goes towards the ongoing web hosting costs. I welcome constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement. Spelling mistakes and poor grammar are two of my pet hates, so I welcome corrections to those too.

Some technical details

I am a great fan of open source operating systems and applications; i.e. NOT Microsoft Windows, NOT Apple Mac, but Linux, Firefox, OpenOffice etc. I use them daily in my work and for the construction and testing of these websites and for all my internet use. I am currently using Ubuntu v10.10. on my desktop PCs and laptops. They are easy to download and install, and are generally very robust and secure. In my opinion, open source software is often better designed and easier to use than most paid-for software. Also, because they're more secure, I don't bother with any anti-virus software, and I don't need to use the latest hi-spec PCs either. And, best of all, they're free, although I do make donations to open source development organisations.
