How Does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture improves local blood circulation by inserting sterile needles at different points to relieve pain and recover health. According to traditional Chinese medicine our health is dependent on qi, the body's motivating energy, and blood, the body's vital nutrient substance. There are many issues that can affect qi and blood flows including physical, mental and emotional factors. These can include anxiety, stress, fear, grief, poor nutrition, weather conditions, hereditary factors, infections, poisons and trauma. When fine needles are inserted into acupuncture points during treatments, the flow of qi and blood are encouraged. This leads to the body's own healing response being triggered, resulting in your body being restored to its natural balance.

What can it be used for ?

Tui Na (Chinese Therapeutic Massage)

Tui Na is a therapeutic massage that has been developed according to the theories and principals of TCM. Tui Na is a stronger than normal massage and corresponding herb oils can be used depending on what is being treated. Tui Na can be used on the neck, back and whole body to relieve stress or for relaxation.

Cupping involves creating a vacuum in a cup like device which is then applied to the area of the body requiring treatment. The vacuum creates a pulling pressure on the skin and cutaneous tissue. This increases blood circulation to the area supplying nutrition to the tissue and promoting metabolism.

Cupping is a completely unique sensation and patients should expect moderate but tolerable pulling sensation during the course of the treatment. Slight bruising and mild tenderness is common after cupping, but it is not painful and any bruising should fade within a week. The cups are applied to oiled skin and can be used to massage an area to encourage circulation and lymphatic drainage - typically areas of the back are treated.

Moxibustion is an extremely common traditional Chinese Medicine technique that involves applying heat to locations on the body through the burning of the dried herb mugwort. Mugwort burns hot when ignited. The smouldering dry herb is contained within a special box that can be placed on the body to safely introduce the warmth. When directed over the skin the mugwort delivers a pleasant and deeply penetrating heat to the body.

Moxibustion herbs can also be compressed into a candle-like stick that can be used to gently warm the acupuncture needles in situ. This part of the treatment is very comforting, relaxing and calming. This traditional treatment improves blood flow and strengthens the immune system, helping to both treat and prevent illnesses.

Auricular Acupuncture (Ear Acupuncture)

Various parts of the body correspond to specific points in the outer ear. These points are stimulated to help treat numerous conditions. It is particularly useful for pain relief.

It can also be used to treat addictions such as alcohol, smoking or weight management and phobias.

Facial Cosmetic Acupuncture

Facial cosmetic acupuncture revitalises your face and skin. It is an effective treatment for producing a younger looking, firmer, healthier appearance. This treatment incorporates a holistic consultation and full body treatment to restore balance and energise the body. Stresses, imbalances and illness will manifest themselves in the face therefore the whole body is treated, not just your face. The super fine, sterile, single use needles used for facial acupuncture are finer than those used for the body. Hair thin intradermal needles may also be used and introduced along wrinkles to stimulate collagen, this is especially beneficial for upper lip lines, smokers lines, crows feet and frown lines. There may be some sensation of the needle being inserted but it should not be painful. Most people find these sessions relaxing.

The precise insertion of super fine needles stimulates the blood flow into the areas treated. This induced "injury" naturally stimulates the body's own healing responses. New collagen and elastin is created as the body has been "tricked" into thinking that a wound needs repairing. This is how the body naturally repairs and regenerates itself after an injury. This is the same principle used in treatments such as dermaroller skin needling, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and laser skin resurfacing - but without damaging or removing the upper surface of skin. Facial Acupuncture stimulates energy flow, metabolism and lymphatic drainage. Results may be seen after the first treatment but a course of 6 is suggested and alongside microdermabrasion and skin peels where needed.

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?

TCM is one kind of traditional medicine that treats cases with natural remedies of Chinese herbs, acupuncture and therapeutic massage according to its theories of yin and yang.

The treatments can be aimed at the symptoms and TCM always aims at treating the cause of ailment and concentrates on the "root" of illness.

Microdermabrasion - The treatment for smoother clear skin!

Microdermabrasion is a skin rejuvenating technique designed to naturally improve the texture & clarity of your skin. The results are a natural looking, fresher complexion. Lines, wrinkles, acne scars, ingrown hairs and pigmentation irregularities can be improved. The treatment is suitable for men & women of all ages. This resurfacing treatment immediately restores smoother, younger looking skin! There are two versions: Crystal and Diamond Tip

In principal microdermabrasion is similar to sand blasting. Fine crystals are directed onto the skin in a precise manner to dislodge dead skin debris. The diamond tip version is crystal free and uses diamond grit encrusted heads which are swept over the skin. This resultant debris is simultaneously vacuumed from the skin. Microdermabrasion stimulates circulation and triggers collagen growth for long term benefits.

Microdermabrasion has become the most talked about facial.

Treatment is gradual and progressive improvements are seen with each session. You can resume your normal activities after treatment. Your treatment will include thorough cleansing, extractions of blocked pores and application of appropriate serums, hydrators and SPF.

Frequently Asked Questions: Semi-Permanent Make-up

Q: Does it hurt?

A: Topical anaesthesia is used to alleviate discomfort during the procedure and pain relief acupuncture may also be used.

Q: Is permanent make-up permanent?

A:Your permanent cosmetic make-up procedure depends upon the technician, products used, how deep the cosmetic tattoo was placed into your skin, how well you take care of the procedural area while it is healing, and whether or not you use a total sun block after the procedure area has completely healed. All these factors will determine how long the procedure will last. Colour enhancers are also suggested 'as needed' to keep the procedure looking 'fresh and new'.

Q: Can I have permanent make-up if I am allergic to regular make-up?

A: People who are allergic to traditional facial make-up are the ideal candidates for the permanent make-up procedure.

Q: What will I look like immediately following my procedure?

A: The area where the procedure takes place may be slightly swollen and irritated. The area may also be darker for a few days while it is healing because of the lymph droplets that may have been brought to the surface during the application. While your procedure area is healing, it must go through 3 phases before you will experience the final results. The area must first heal, peel and fade. Final results may take 4-8 weeks to completely heal.

Q: Is this procedure safe?

A: Single use, sterile needles and machine parts are used for each client and then properly disposed of.

Q: How do I care for my 'NEW' permanent make-up procedure?

A: After completion, you will receive a post-treatment care sheet. The overall success of your procedure is dependent on you following these instructions. A follow-up visit will be scheduled for 4-6 weeks from the initial appointment. This is to fine tune and touch-up any area of the skin that may have expelled the pigment.

Q: Can a person on medication have a permanent make-up procedure?

A: Clients on medication should obtain a release from their GP prior to any permanent cosmetic make-up procedure. The release should be written on GP's note paper and brought along to your initial appointment.

Micro Needling Facial

Natural method of collagen stimulation

Now there is an alternative to skin resurfacing treatments such as skin peels or laser without the skin preparation, pain, red peeling face and downtime where you to need to stay at home or curb your social activities until your skin has recovered.

What skin problems can you treat with Dermaroller Medical Skin Needling?

Facial lines and wrinkles. Acne scarring Chicken pox scars Scars from surgery or injury including keloid and hypertrophic scarring Stretch marks Cellulite Enlarged / visible pores Ageing and lax skin Alopecia / Hairloss Skin Rejuvenation & Hydration Treatment

What is Dermaroller Medical Skin Needling?

Medical Skin Needling, also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy and Micro-Needling. The treatment stimulates the body's own collagen production to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, skin laxity and scarring such as that caused by acne or chicken pox.

This is achieved by introducing a series of fine, sharp needles into the skin following the administration of a topical local anaesthetic to reduce discomfort. The needles are attached to a sterile roller which is moved over the surface of the skin to create many microscopic channels or columns, at various depths of penetration.

Clinical studies have shown that Micro Needling can be more effective than treatments such as laser resurfacing, dermabrasion and chemical peels, additionally to be just as effective as treatments such as IPL, CO2 laser and fraxel in stimulating collagen and elastin production, thus thickening the skin which reduces wrinkles and scarring.

What is reflexology?

This complementary therapy is based on the priniciple that reflex points on the feet (or hands) correspond to areas throughout the body. Reflexologists work these reflexes with their thumbs and fingers using specialised massage techniques to help correct imbalances throughout the body and help release blocked energy. A brief history of reflexology An early form of reflexology is said to have been used by the Chinese more than 5000 years ago in their pressure therapies. These ancient forms of foot massage were based on principles that energy zones run throughout the body. These principles were further developed in the early 19th century and expanded by practitioners such as Dr William Fitzgerald and Eunice Ingham. Reflexology was introduced to Britain in the early 1960's and its popularity continues to grow.

Who can have reflexology?

Foot Reflexology is a non intrusive complementary therapy which is suitable for most people. A consultation will be carried out before the treatment to check if there are any contra - indications (anything which would prevent treatment) or if the treatment will need to be adapted. In some circumstances your doctor's permission may be required before treatments can commence. Each treatment is tailored to the your individual needs. Reflexologists do not claim to cure, prescribe or diagnose and should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice.

What happens when I go for a treatment?

A comprehensive consultation will be taken, including your medical history, and we will discuss the benefits to be achieved. As just the feet are being worked, you will remain fully clothed and simply remove your shoes and socks. You will be invited to relax on a reclining chair. Your feet will be cleansed at the start of the treatment and then a variety of reflexology techniques will be used depending on the individual needs. The treatment lasts approximately one hour including consultation. On your first visit, please allow around 1 hour 20 minutes as detailed consultation will be required.

Will reflexology help me?

Good circulation in the body is vital for bringing oxygen and nutrients to the cells and also removing toxins. Stress and tension can restrict circulation causing the body to become more sluggish. Reflexology may help improve circulation and lymph flow which encourages the body's removal of toxins and impurities. This helps the body to restore its equilibrum / its balance - naturally.

With increasing levels of stress in every day life, more and more people are taking control of their own health needs. If the body is under prolonged stress, the body is less capable of fighting illness and so more prone to become ill. This may affect your health and well being which in turn may make life harder in other areas such as your work life, relationships and home life. Reflexology may be one of the ways to help mitigate the stresses of today's busy and hectic modern life as the treatment aids deep relaxation for both the body and the mind.

The treatment can be relaxing but also can be changed to be more invigorating to increase energy levels if this is the desired outcome.

Potential benefits of reflexology can include:

Reflexology may help conditions such as:

How will I feel after a treatment?

After a treatment, clients have reported feeling relaxed, their mood and sense of well being improved. They have felt more productive and energised the following day. Clients should try to rest after the treatment and avoid alcohol and caffeine as these have a stimulating effect. Resting will help your body's natural healing process and also drinking plenty of water will help remove toxins.

The practice of Reiki is an original method of healing, developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th century, which is activated by intention. It works on every level, not just the physical. The Japanese word Reiki means 'Universal Energy'.

Eastern medicine has always recognised and worked with this energy, which flows through all living things and is vital to well-being. Know as 'Ki' in Japan, 'Qi' in China and 'Prana' in India. Acupuncture, T'ai Chi and Yoga are also based on the free-flow of this energy in a person.
